Awards from the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences

Upon application to the Ph.D. program, students are automatically eligible for Graduate Student Initiative (GSI) Awards and the Four Year Doctoral Fellowships. These awards are made by the School to the best students. Priority is given to incoming students. No application is required.

Some funding may be available through grants to faculty members; students should discuss the availability of grant-based funding with future supervisors.

Please see UBC’s Faculty of Graduate Studies Awards and Financial Aid website for further details on financial support for graduate students.

Available External Funding

Students are strongly encouraged to apply for funding from other sources. Application for funding for doctoral studies is the responsibility of the student, although the university may assist in the process.

Students should discuss funding applications with their future supervisor soon after their initial offer of admission to the Ph.D. program. If considering applying for external funding, these discussions could occur before receiving a formal offer of admission.

The deadlines for external funding competitions vary, but may be as early as October of the previous year to enrollment.

Financial assistance for Canadian residents may be available from the Canadian national research councils such as:

  • NSERC
  • SSHRC
  • CIHR (international students are also eligible to apply for CIHR)
