Ph.D. Admissions Criteria
Entry into the Ph.D. program requires that several criteria be met:
- Academic standing, including one of the following:
- Master’s degree in Audiology and Speech Sciences, Psychology, Linguistics, or a related discipline with a first-class (A) average based on relevant graduate and senior undergraduate courses, with first-class standing in at least 18 credits of graduate work; or
- Bachelor’s degree with one year of study in a Master’s program, with 12 credits of first class average, of which 9 credits must be at the 500-level or above and at least 9 credits must be of first class standing (at UBC, 80% or higher); or
- Current enrollment in the School’s M.Sc. programs in Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology with 12 months of study in the M.Sc. program completed.
- Adequate academic preparation to support applicant’s proposed research.
- Evidence of research ability as shown by a Master’s thesis or equivalent.
- Positive evaluations of research potential by three referees, who are researchers.
- A detailed research plan which states applicant’s research interests and reasons for pursuing advanced study. Applicants are strongly urged to directly contact a faculty member in the area of research they wish to pursue prior to submitting a research plan.
- A supervisor, who is willing to chair the student’s Program Advisory Committee and the student’s dissertation.
